2018 - 2020

Painting and photography, and the relationship between make and take - I take a photo, I make a painting. Is photography simply about taking?

How to bind the experience of making into a photograph? Can the medium of photography ever sit comfortably within a painting?

The images featured within these paintings are taken from a 3 year photography project concerning the surface textures found upon the ground, and an interest in painterly composition. These themes undergo exploration through a use of colour and the visual qualities of oil paint.

Additionally, these artworks have to cope with the rectangle, just as a photographer does when viewing through a viewfinder.

There are also a series of drawings which feed into this project.
